I Will Invest My Award Prize Into Youth Ready To Go Into Farming – 2019 National Best Farmer
2019 National Best Farmer, Mr. Charles Gyamfi says he will invest his award prize which is money into youth who are ready to go into farming.
He says farming is a very lucrative venture and that the youth should go into farming.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that the youth should understand that farming is a very lucrative venture which rewards handsomely and not a job for the uneducated.
He explained that he is a practicing Registrar who has worked for 30 years and has built his farms all these years.
"I know farming is a lucrative venture and I am ready to assist any youth who is ready to go into farming to enable them to become me and perhaps also be a national best farmer one day," he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to the government and the Agric Ministry for the support and honour done farmers in the country.
He also appreciated his colleague farmers who over the years have helped grow the economy.
Mr. Charles Gyamfi from the Tano North Municipality in the Ahafo Region emerged the 2019 National Best Farmer.
The 58-year-old farmer, who ended his education at the secondary level, won the prestigious annual award at a colourful durbar held at the Volta Regional capital, Ho, on Friday,
He took home a cheque for GH¢536,000 donated by the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and a GH¢500,000 life insurance cover from Glico Insurance.
Mr. Gyamfi has cultivated 10 acres of cassava, four acres of yam, 20 acres of coconut, 60 acres of maize, 16.5 acres of garden eggs and two acres of cowpea.
In terms of tree crops, he has 500 acres of cocoa, 10 acres of oil palm, 30 acres of plantain, 25 acres of citrus and 70 acres of cashew.
Additionally, he has 20 acres of teak trees. In terms of animals, he has 75 cattle, and 2,000 layers among others.
He also has five beehives which have been colonized with bees, three fish ponds stocked with tilapia and catfish and 1,000 snails.
His farms employ a total of 158 workers, comprising 38 full-time employees and 120 casuals.
