A forty five year old member of the Clergy, with the Shiloh Christlike Chapel at Afienya in Greater Accra, Pastor Emmanuel Narty has been installed Family head of Kle Obonu Wem in Prampram.
Pastor Emmanuel Nartey replaces Mr. Nathaniel Nelson Nartey who recently resigned from the post.
The former Head of Family who tendered in his resignation during the one year commemoration of the late Mankralo of Prampram Nene Atsure Benta III cited threats, enmity and hatred from some quarters of the family for his decision to abdicate.
“I am unable to continue to be the head of this family where hatred, enmity, threats over my life and hate speeches have become the order of the day”, he told the family as he laid down the Family Head mantle.
Another member of the family Pastor Emmanuel Nartey subsequently agreed to take up the mantle and continue with the unfinished business and putting the family together.
Speaking to the press, the newly installed Family Head assured the people of his resolve to calm tensions and put the clan in shape for posterity.
He said through prayer and by the help of God, sanity, unity and love would be restored to the most admirable clan of Kle Obonu Wem. He however dissociated the clan from a recent supposed installation of a Mankralo of Prampram.
“The Mankralo of Prampram is installed from Obonu Wem only. Though the person is installed from Obonu Wem, the Mankralo serves the entire Prampram so just one, two or three people cannot gather under heavy security and say they have installed a Mankralo.
"It is a Prampram call and by so, all stakeholders are involved. There is a laid down and proper procedure for the installation of a Mankralo. We did not know about the installation of any Mankralo which makes the whole process incredible. I will liaise with the Prampram Traditional Council to get the proper thing done for sanity and order to prevail," he assured.
Pastor Emmanuel Nartey however urged members of his clan to remain calm and united and resolute to move their Family House forward.
BACKGROUND
Obonu Wem is the only clan from which a Mankralo is installed for the Prampram Township in Greater Accra. The assassination of the Mankralo, Nene Atsure Benta III in 2018 was a big blow to the family. The leadership was shaken to the core and members of the clan are still yet to come to terms with the reality. At a recently held press briefing at the Family House members of the clan told the press that justice has still not been served. They wondered why the culprits, some which the family claims to know are still walking about freely. They told the media that they live in constant fear as the perpetrators are free and still committing similar crimes in the area. It is to gather the pieces and move the family forward that a new Family Head has been installed to replace the self-deposed one.
