We’ll Soon “Name and Shame” Politicians Engaging In Galamsey – Small Scale Miners

Public Relations Officer [PRO] of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners has threatened to come out with a tall list of politicians engaging in illegal mining.

Francis Poku who was speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ said the association in the coming weeks will hold a press conference to make the ‘heavyweight’ names public.

“The government should involve the Small Scale Miners Association and Chiefs . . . we will have a press conference very soon to name and shame politicians doing illegal mining,” he warned.

According to him, the Small Scale Miners are ‘fed up’ with government’s approach of fighting illegal mining popularly called ‘galamsey’ in order to eradicate it from the country.

Francis Poku urged government to explore other options in fighting galamsey because the military approach that has been the main strategy so far has not yielded any results – rather benefits top politicians who are in the mining business.
