The Green Gold: Dr. Baird To Chair Committee To Advance Work On The Establishment Of A Cannabis Industry

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis in North America has put together a group of experts to provide technical support to further advance processes towards the decriminalization of cannabis and the establishment of a marijuana industry.

The broad based Cannabis Core Committee of experts will focus on ensuring that the St. Kitts and Nevis cannabis legislation is the most modern and progressive in the region.

The Committee shall advice on the necessary systems to put in place that would make the industrialization of cannabis real and substantial in order to contribute to the health and wellness of people, create jobs and help generate economic revenue.

Notably, the establishment of a modern cannabis industry requires a lot of work and preparation in the light of deeply held ideas regarding its use, its legitimacy, and even its legality. With a sustained public-private engagement however, awareness of the many beneficial uses of hemp will open up the conversation and lead the path onto industrialization.

Dr. Wycliffe Baird who has been involved with the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with their cannabis legislation and industrial exploits deliberations alongside the delivery of many interventions in Africa chairs the Committee with colossal knowledge in the economic impact of cannabis.

Members of the Cannabis Core Committee are drawn from critical stakeholder groups such as the Christian Council, the Rastafarian Community, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Youth, the Office of the Attorney General and other cannabis experts in the likes of Dr. Andre Gordon, Ms. Lisa Grant, Dr. Annabelle Manalo and Mr. Marcus Ramkissoon provided inputs at
the meeting.
