Secession: Volta Region Has Been Neglected For A Long Time – Pratt

The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has asked government to pay attention to some issues being raised by the Homeland Study Group Foundation, a secessionist group fighting for the independence of the then Western Togoland from Ghana.

The Military has invaded Ho in the Volta region and has evacuated some 21 persons including a lady believed to be receiving military training from the secessionists group.

The 'recruits' according to reports were rounded up in a dawn operation by the military following weeks of surveillance.

Reacting to this development on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt urged all to come on board to deal with the issue to avoid it escalating.

According to him, secessioning is not a solution to any problem.

"It is not a solution to lack of development, it is not a solution to non-integration. . . " he said while admitting that the Volta region has been neglected for some time.

He further indicated that there are reasons being given by the group which are true and that there will be the need for government to deal with it.

"We should not start a war, war is not the solution to the problem . . . it is true that Volta region has been neglected for some time, for a very long time Volta region has not had its fair share of development, that is an issue we have to address. If you do that their propaganda collapses . . . there are major issues that need national attention," he pointed out.
