Ghana's COVID-19 cases now stands at 53. This is up a figure from the earlier confirmed cases of 52 made known at a presser on Tuesday morning by officials.
According to the Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu. 25 new cases were imported from the 1,030 people who are under mandatory self-quarantine in some hotels in Accra.
"Out of the 185 test results received, we have 25 of those quarantined tested positive. If you add on to the earlier number of 27, it means we have 52 tested positive in our country at the moment. Those in quarantine, we have actually deployed psychologists to have chats with them. We are also in the process of handing them over to our case management teams we have set up. We have started taking them to isolated centers for case management," the Health Minister said at the press conference.
However, by 6:47pm on March 24th, 2020, another case was confirmed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
According to the GHS, a total of fifty-three (53) cases including two (2) deaths have been confirmed. All the fifty-one (51) confirmed cases are receiving treatment in isolation.
The sudden spike in case incidence is as a result of the mandatory quarantine and compulsory testing for all travellers entering Ghana, as directed by the President.
As of 6:47pm on 24 March, a total of 1,030 are under mandatory quarantine; 844 have had their samples taken; 510 have had the samples tested, and out these twenty-six (26) tested positive for COVID-19.
A great majority of the confirmed cases are Ghanaians, who returned home from affected countries. Seven (7) are of other nationals namely: Norway, Lebanon, China, France, UK.
In respect of contact tracing, a total of 829 contacts have been identified and are being tracked. One (1) of the contacts developed symptoms and has been confirmed positive.
Nineteen (19) people have completed the 14 days of mandatory follow up.
