Police And Military Arrest 16 In Buipe At Dawn

A joint Police cum Military team on the dawn of Saturday May 14, raided the Buipe Township and arrested 16 suspects in connection with a recent violence that erupted between the feuding Jinapor and Lebu gates. Nine of the suspects are members of the Lebu gate while the other seven are members of the Jinapor gate.They have a ll been transferred to the Northern Regional Police Command for interrogation. Security sources have told Citi News more arrests could be made. Abdul Fatawu Seidu, Spokesperson of the Lebu gate confirmed that nine of his kinsmen have been arrested and mentioned some of them as Saboamiwura Seidu Afa, (a sub chief in Buipe), Seidu Latif, Seidu TT, Seidu Jibaru and Seidu Alhassan. He condemned the arrest and said government was being bias in handing the protracted Buipe chieftaincy feud between the Jinapor and Lebu royals in that part of the Gonja Kingdom. Dr. Ahmed Jinapor on the other hand questioned the rationale behind the early dawn arrest in the Buipe Township which targeted some of his brothers. He said those arrested include Keke Kajebi, Mohammed Kajebi, Abukari Kajebi, Gbulu Musah and Musah Samson, whom he described as innocent people. It will be recalled that several houses were burnt and casualties recorded as a result of fresh violence which erupted in the area between the feuding Jinapor and Lebu gates on Thursday May 12. Some of the victims were treated and discharged at the Central Gonja Dis trictclinic. But one of them who was in a critical condition called Quiwura Ziblila Mankri, believed to be the chief driver of the Central Gonja District office of the Ghana Education Service Directorate, was transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
