Dan Lartey calls for fresh registration

The Leader and Founder of the Great Consolidated Peoples Party(GCPP) Mr Dan Lartey has charged the Electoral Commission to conduct fresh registration of voters before the coming general elections in December. He has said that the GCPP will do everything within its powers to restrain the EC from conducting elections with the current voter register. According to him the register is bloated by over 618,417 names a figure which he said is capable of sending one party to victory. He has said that there is no need for any elections if the EC refuses to do something about a bloated register which it is aware of. Mr. Dan Lartey said that even though one cannot loose confidence in the EC the information provided by the EC to the GCPP on the 230 constituencies in the country confirms the claim by the NDC that registered voters in 13 constituencies in the Ashanti Region have been bloated. He said the EC presented two contradictory figures of the total number of registered voters which presents a course for alarm. He insisted that the GCPP has issued a press release to that effect and are looking forward for a reaction from the EC. Mr. Dan Lartey made these pronouncements on the maiden edition of Henry Robert Malms political Talk Show on TV3 dubbed Vote For Me on Saturday. He announced that the GCPP is set for congress on the 3rd of May 2008 in Kumasi. He stressed that a flag bearer contestant of the party should be at least a former chairman of the party, a situation that makes it obvious that he will be running solely because of the absence of a former chairman of the party. He kicked against what he described as the HIPC Policy of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) saying the country has the capacity to produce and generate internal resources to pay off its own debt. He explained that GCPPS policy of 814 billion Dollar budget which has been reiterated since 1992 was built around the discovery of Oil and Iron Ore in the country. He noted that he as the leader of the party knew of the Oil potential of the country but was waiting for the appropriate time to announce it He accused past and present Governments for the woes of the country. On the much talked about Political Party Funding Mr. Lartey maintained that as an institution that is supposed to provide Government for the country political parties must be funded just like the Electoral Commission and CHRAJ considering the provision of the 1992 constitution. He alleged that even though the countrys constitution does not allow foreign influence on political parties, the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is indirectly financing some four political parties in the country. He however called on Ghanaians to vote massively for the GCPP to lead the country to its glorious moments.
