We'll Take Action If EC Refuses To Observe Protocols At Registration Centres - GMA Secretary

General Secretary for the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Justice Yankson has said his outfit will take necessary actions backed by law should the number of COVID-19 cases increase as a result of the voters' registration exercise.

He stated that authorities of the Electoral Commission (EC) must make sure they make available provisions as stated by their office to help voters who visit their fields to keep to the COVID-19 protocols.

"We don't want situations where our own negligence will worsen our pandemic cases," he said.

Dr. Yankson in an interview with UTV's 'Adekye Nsroma' programme affirmed "we are not against the EC's compilation of new voters register since they have that mandate per the laws of the state and have as well received that blessing from the Supreme Court".

"All we are concerned about is the well being of Ghanaians, therefore, we have planned to take up necessary actions should we see that COVID-19 protocols are still not being observed like the EC promised from day one when the exercise started".

The medical officer added that if changes are not seen in a manner that COVID-19 precautionary measures are being adhered to according to how authorities of the EC explained to prevent the spread of the disease in the country, they will take up necessary sanctions to save lives.
