COVID-19 Isn’t Peculiar To EC Registration Exercise; It’s Everyday Risk - Sammi Awuku

The threat of Covid-19 has become a major concern for individuals in the country.

Some believe Ghanaians are not observing the safety protocols outlined by government and health authorities while others think the new voters’ registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) will cause the virus infection to escalate and spread across the country.

But to the NPP National Organizer, Sammi Awuku, the novel disease is not peculiar to the registration exercise but rather an everyday risk.

Speaking on Joy News, he advised Ghanaians to be cautious and stay safe.

“We have two options - whether you have to go for risk avoidance or risk reduction. Risk avoidance means you have to stay  in the comfort of your home without making any movement at all for the rest of the month or for the rest of the year. But for risk reduction, you can be coming out knowing that you need to wear your face mask, sanitize your hands under running water with soap to reduce the risk.”

He appealed to the public to take the precautionary measures seriously at the registration centers.

“For us political parties, it’s important as major stakeholders that we keep encouraging our people that we can go through this process successfully and come out healthy without contracting this deadly virus.

“Even though it won’t be easy but we are going through the process, Every day is a risk and  iam sure many countries around the world such as South Korea, Tokyo and Coracias are also going through an electoral process. Malawi and Ivory Coast are also comparing new voters' register so this is not a new thing. We must understand that this unwanted guest has come to stay and going to be with us for some times so we need to take measures to protect lives and for us to go through these processes as well.

“It has not been easy, but I think we just have to do with it and go through it and come out still looking healthy”, he said.
