Concerned Teacher & Trainee Nurses Welcome Prof. NJOA's Appointment With “Fear And Trepidation”

The Concerned Teacher and Trainee Nurses have raised some concerns in the selection of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku- Agyemang, former Minister of Education, as the running mate to John Dramani Mahama.

The group in a statement copied to Peacefmonline.com said the former Education Minister is “unfit” for the position she has been appointed to occupy.

“Our fear is premised on the fact that under the reign of Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang as the Minister of Education under the erstwhile administration of the NDC, teacher and trainee nurses in the country went through several ordeals following the cancellation of trainee allowances,” a portion of the statement read

The National Executive Committee of the NDC unanimously endorsed Mr. Mahama’s nomination of Professor Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the December 2020 election on Monday, 6 July 2020.

Mr. Mahama later said in a Facebook that Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who happened to be his Minister of Education during his presidency, is “God-fearing”, “a distinguished scholar”, “a conscientious public servant” and “a role model.

She is the first woman chosen by the NDC as a running mate.

PRESS STATEMENT BY CONCERNED TEACHER AND TRAINEE NURSES OVER SELECTION OF PROF. JANE NAANA OPOKU AGYEMANG AS NDC RUNNING MATE

We the Concerned Teacher and Trainee Nurses in the country have received the selection of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, former Minister of Education, as the running mate to Mr. John Dramani Mahama, with lots of fear and trepidation.

Our fear is premised on the fact that under the reign of Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang as the Minister of Education under the erstwhile administration of the NDC, teacher and trainee nurses in the country went through several ordeals following the cancellation of trainee allowances.

We have no doubt that the decision by the then President and now Candidate John Dramani Mahama to cancel these allowances, which was a major source of reprieve for us trainees,  was based on advice from she (Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang)

As every Ghanaian is aware, it took the intervention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and his able Vice President,  Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia,  to restore these much-needed allowances for us as students.

With her selection as the running mate to Mr. Mahama, we have no doubt that she will pursue her agenda once again, in the unlikely event that the NDC wins December 2020 elections.

It is for this reason that we the Concerned Teacher and Nurses Trainees are calling on our colleague trainees and other Ghanaians aspiring to pursue teaching and nursing as professions to mass up at the various registration centres to register and vote massively against the NDC in the December 7 elections.

Please consider this call as a national crusade because it will define our destiny as students and the future as teachers and nurses.
