World Youth Skills Day: Artisans Association of Ghana Urges Members To Keep Safe Amid COVID-19

The President of the Artisans Association of Ghana has released a statement to support this year’s World Youth Skills Day, which is dubbed; “Skills for a Resilient Youth in the Era of COVID-19 and Beyond".

It is estimated that nearly 70% of the world’s learners are affected by school closures across education levels currently.

Respondents to a survey of TVET institutions, jointly collected by UNESCO, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Bank, reported that distance training has become the most common way of imparting skills, with considerable difficulties regarding, among others, curricula adaptation, trainee and trainer preparedness, connectivity, or assessment and certification processes.

It is to this effect that the Artisans Association of Ghana, (AAG), has deemed it fit to also add it voice to the celebration of this year’s World Youth Skills Day.

The Artisans Association of Ghana (AAG), is an organization with the mission to help train, upgrade and aid in certification of unskilled youth and master craftsmen, as well as enable them provide services that meet global standards, with over 26,000 membership drawn from specialized trade areas like Glass Aluminum Fabricating, Welding, Auto Engineering, Photography, Plumbing, Pest Control, Construction, Carpentry, Architecture, Painting, and many more.

At this difficult times where the unknown and unexpected global enemy, Covid-19 has attacked the global community, thereby almost halting all free movements, including economic and social connectivity, skill workers, unlike other workers who could easily get connected online for effective work and leaning, are the most affected victims of the covid-19 pandemic.

This is because, our work and learning processes all involve lots of practical and experiments.

We must therefore confess that, although the pandemic has affected all educational sectors across the globe, the most affected sector is the vocational and the technical training institutes, due to the nature of our work and learning process.

To make matters worse in this situation, the pandemic has increased the already high rate of youth unemployment in many countries, as the youth form a larger part of these skill workers in our world market.

In the face of all these difficulties nonetheless, the Artisans Association of Ghana, wishes to encourage its members and all skill workers and trainees across the globe to keep safe under the circumstance.

We want to urge all our members and all skill workers, especially the youth, to be very active and be ready to grab any least opportunity available to use the situation to rather equip themselves with e-learning and not to see the situation as a total hindrance to their development.

The world, in any case is rapidly developing in technology, and there is the need for skill workers to also take their chance to equip ourselves with new technologies as and when it comes to enable us also meet the standard of the world market to better our lives.

“As the President of the association, I, Gideon Bidor, want to congratulate all my members and all skill workers and trainees across the globe, especially the youth for your wonderful contributions to national development, your hardworking, and readiness to help make your nation (s) a better place for us all to live comfortably.

Do not ever underestimate your importance in national development.

I also want to urge you all to seriously adhere to all safety protocols and work precautions to ensure that you do not carelessly lose your lives either during or even after the pandemic, because the nation needs us very much.
On behalf of the AAG, I want to say a big AYEKOO to all skill workers and our hardworking youth across the globe, especially, AAG members, and to wish all of you a Happy Anniversary celebration, despite the attack of covid-19.”
Long Live Skill Workers . . . Now And Beyond Covid-19 . . . !!!!!

Signed;

Gideon Bidor
(National President - AAG)
