Hon Hawa Koomson Fires Gunshots At Registration Centre

Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson has admitted firing gunshots at a registration centre in the constituency in an attempt to protect herself when she learned that her opponent had bussed people to registration centre.

According to her she took the firearm in the absence of her police escort as a Member of Parliament since it was dawn and the police had not started work to the registration centre to protect herself but she will refused to identify the firearm.

Although the Special Development Initiatives Minister admitted to the act, she denied the allegations that men she went to the scene with were armed.

“I’m a Member of Parliament, I need to protect myself. It was at dawn, my police escort had not started work yet. So that is a mechanism I have adopted in his absence,” she said.

“None of my men had guns on then when we got to the centre. I fired the shots myself,” she said in an interview said on Adom FM.

Earlier Monday, Officials of the Electoral Commission closed down the Kasoa Peace Town Top Hill Down polling centre registration centre in the Awutu Senya East constituency after gun-wielding men stormed the premises.

Eyewitnesses say, the men numbering at least 15 arrived at the centre around 8 am and tried to sack some prospective voters.

Parliamentary Candidate on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the sitting MP of perpetuating the act.

Meanwhile, police say four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
