COVID-19: Nana B & Kwesi Pratt 'Punches' Each Other On 'Kokrokoo'

NPP National Youth Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye on Monday, July 20, 2020 clashed with seasoned journalist Kwesi Pratt while discussing COVID-19 and matters arising on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo''.

The NPP National Youth Organizer blasted Kwesi Pratt saying he is pessimistic about the efforts and interventions by the government and health Professionals in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is because Kwesi Pratt had earlier argued the country is not doing so well with managing the pandemic.

Looking at the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases in the country, Kwesi Pratt wondered how any person could convince him that the situation is under control.

He also criticized the government for not paying heed to calls that final year students are at risk of contracting the novel disease as they remain in their various schools.

But Nana Boakye resented the criticisms by the Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper saying the government has exceedingly performed in safeguarding the lives of Ghanaians against the viral disease.

He further argued that the President didn't act on his own to direct schools to reopen for final year students but had consultations with all stakeholders in the education sector before letting the students return to their classrooms.

The arguments got heated up as Nana Boakye and Kwesi Pratt couldn't come to a consensus on the issue.

Mr. Pratt explained that some countries like Nigeria, UK and others have prioritized the life of their students over any gains.

''The children's health and life is important to them than certificate'', he said and so would have had the government behave in like manner.

But Nana B slammed him (Mr. Pratt) for finding fault with everything the government does.

''We've managed ourselves well. I plead for us not to disvalue our health system and leaders...The major stakeholder consultations and meetings; look, at the Presidency, sometimes when I go there, the President would close at 11 pm because he meets everybody. He met the parents, teachers, expert, GNAT and GMA and more to get their input. So, there was a major consultation. In fact, before we even opened (the schools), we did disinfected all schools nationwide...and also provided PPEs to all the schools.

''So, we need to appreciate the efforts. Some people are learning from us...I am yet to find out if Kenya provided all of these operational logistics. I am yet to find out if Nigeria did the same. With Nigeria, even testing, they're far, far, far below us...In fact, in Africa, it appears only South Africa and Egypt that's ahead of us. So, we have done so well.''

Kwesi Pratt, on the other hand, stood by his position that Ghana hasn't done so well with managing the pandemic.

He stated;''The facts must speak for themselves...Amongst the more than 50 countries in Africa, Ghana is fourth in terms of worse cases. In fact, when you mention five worse cases, Ghana is among; we're listed number 4. So, if in spite of this statistics, somebody wants to learn from Ghana; then I really wish them well''.
