COVID-19 Recovered Persons Will Have Kidney & Heart Complications - Prof. Joseph Osafo

Head of Psychology Department of the University of Ghana, Prof. Joseph Osafo, says COVID-19 recovered persons are likely to battle with other health complications associated with the disease.

Ghana's COVID-19 case count, as at Sunday, July 26, 2020, stood at 32,969 with 29,494 persons having recovered/discharged, and 168 deaths recorded nationwide.

The number of active cases stands at 3,307 active cases with 374,612 tests having so far being conducted.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, in his 14th update on COVID-19, expressed optimism over the country's case count stressing the recovery rate is remarkable.

Prof. Joseph Osafo has shared contrary views arguing that recovering doesn't guarantee immunity against the disease.

''You can get infected and re-infected and you can get infected again'', he said.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', he stressed it is likely the recovered persons will have heart and kidney problems amidst other complications from the coronavirus.

''When you contract the disease, certain organs of your body are affected. Your heart, liver, kidney and your blood could clot, and also recent science from the US and UK show that when you even recover from the disease, you will go home with lack of concentration, lack of sleep. You'll have brain damage, delirium and all of those," he told host Nana Yaw Kesseh.
