Akufo-Addo "Punishing" Us With His Freebies; It'll Have Negative Repercussions On Us - NDC Chairman

NDC Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency Chairman, Mr Bismarck Abuobi Aryettey says President Akufo Addo’s freebies are nothing but a “punishment” on Ghanaians.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his 14th live televised address to the nation on Sunday, July 26, 2020, announced the extension of free water and electricity supply to lifeline tariff customers till the end of the year.

He stated that, government will review the early announcement by the Finance Minister during the mid-year budget review.

"In the Finance Minister’s mid-year budget review, he, again, announced that all Ghanaians are to enjoy free water supply for another three months. I intend to have it reviewed at the end of the period,” Akufo-Addo said.

According to Chairman Bismarck, the President’s extension will have a negative toll on the nation.

"Since the beginning of Coronavirus pandemic, have you heard that the government has slashed civil servants salary? No. It has rather been increased by 10%. So if you still dash such a person free electricity and water, what good are you doing to the country? It means you are punishing us," he said on UTV's late news.

Reacting to the Finance Minister’s mid-year budget review, he also asked President Akufo-Addo to reduce the number of appointees in his government.

"What is the use of going for a loan for your great grandchildren to come and pay later? It will be better for Nana Addo to reduce the number of Ministers in his government for Ghanaians to know indeed he has the country at heart. So that these appointees will begin to drop their V8 and start using saloon cars and also buy their own fuel,” he said.
