Free Hot Meal For JHS Final Year Students While Univ Continuing Students Resume

Final Year students getting ready to write their Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) will be given free hot meals, according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

This follows reports that these students are going hungry in their attempt to comply with the COVID-19 safety protocols.

In his 15th COVID-19 address to the nation, the President said he has directed the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure that the students and their teachers get one hot meal daily until they complete their exams in September.

This applies to both public and private schools

"As a result of reports I have recently received that some final years JHS students were going hungry in complying with the COVID-19 safety protocols, I have just instructed the Minister for Gender, Children and social protection to begin preparations to ensure that as from 24th August -18th September 584,000 students and 146,000 staff both in public and private schools be given one hot meal a day…this is to ensure full observance of the COVID-19 protocols," he indicated in his address.

Meanwhile, continuing students of various universities in the country will be resuming on 24th August 2020.

According to the President, "measures have been put in place to curb the spread of the virus just as was done when the final years were going to school."
