Akufo-Addo's Govt Has Employed Less Than 13,000 Nurses Since 2017 - Kofi Adams

Parliamentary Candidate for Buem Constituency, Kofi Adams has challenged the Akufo-Addo government over the 50,000 nurses it claims to have employed since it took power from from the Mahama led NDC government in January 2017.

According to him, he can only count less than 13,000 nurses being employed under President Akufo-Addo including those who received financial clearance in 2016 under former President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the former National Organizer of the NDC intimated that his checks from the website of the Ghana Health Service show that less than 13,000 nurses have so far been employed.

“Akufo-Addo's government has employed less than 13, 000 nurses in addition to what the NDC government left behind if you check the website of Ghana Health Service and so I don’t know where the NPP got their 50,000 nurses they are talking about from,” he wondered.

He demanded that the Akufo-Addo government furnish Ghanaians with further information by providing the payroll of the 50,000 nurses it claimed to have employed; thus, it is another lie of the Akufo-Addo government to cook up the figure to convince Ghanaians.

“Which payroll are these nurses the NPP is talking about on? The information is there and that is why I have said that this government is full of lies. If you go to the website of the Ghana Health Service, the information is there as in 2016 the number of nurses that have been employed and the number of nurses added so far is there for everyone to see,” he stated.

“Let’s add those nurses who received financial clearance in 2016 to the number of nurses employed under the NPP government in 2017, they are still less than 13, 000 nurses employed so far under the NPP. So, where did they get the 50,000 nurses from? Meanwhile, they are going about peddling this falsehood to Ghanaians,” he added.

Talking about the Free Senior High School Policy, Kofi Adams said it is a lie that the introduction of the policy by the Akufo-Addo government has increased the number of enrolment in Senior High Schools, asserting that those who completed SHS in previous years are more than those who are writing their final year exams.

“If you check WAEC figures and the GES figures, those who completed SHS in previous years are more than those who are writing their final exams under the Free SHS Policy. So, wherefrom this argument which they are trumpeting?” he rhetorically asked.
