PHOTO....Wife Of Murdered MP Selected As NPP's Replacement - OFFICIAL

Peacefmonline.com can confirm that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has settled on the wife of the murdered Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Ophelia Hayford, as the deceased's successor in the constituency.

Reports received indicates that the ruling party, on Monday, sent a letter to the Electoral Commission (EC) invoking Section 13 (4) of CI 127 to allow a 10day extension of the nomiation period within which the party will file her name.

This was affirmed by the leadership of the NPP on Asempa FM's Ekosisen programme.

Section 4 of the Public Elections Regulations 2020, C.I. 127, states that: “Where at the close of nominations, but before the election, one of the candidates dies, a further period of 10 days shall be allowed for nominations."

Madam Hayford is said to be an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

Peacefmonline is also reliably informed that the nominee has already written to the hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service communicating her decision to resign.

The life of Mr Ekow Kwansah Hayford, hitherto, the NPP's Parliamentary cndidate for Election 2020, was snuffed out rather gruesomely last Friday, while returning from a campaign trip in Abeadze Dominase.

The MP was shot dead by suspected highway robbers.
