EC Axes 5, Clears 12 Presidential Candidates To Contest 2020 Election

The Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared 12 presidential candidates to contest the December 7, 2020 election.

Of the numberm 11 are sponsored by political parties with only one out of the three who filed nominations as independent aspirants making it onto the ballot.

The EC Chairperson, Mrs Jean Meansa who announced the list of qualified candidates at the EC headquarters in Accra at about 5pm Monday said the Commission had extensively scrutinised the nomination forms of the aspirants to ensure that each candidate satisfied all the requirements outlined by law to qualify as a candidate.

The qualified candidates are President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President John Mahama, Mr Ivor Greenstreet, Mr Kofi Percival Akpaloo, Ms Brigitte Dzogbenuku and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The rest were Madam Akua Donkor, Mr. Christian Kwabena Andrews, Mr Asiedu Walker, Mr Hassan Ayariga, Mr David Apasera and Mr Henry Herbert Lartey.

The disqualified aspirants are Mr Kofi Gane and Mr Kofi Koranteng, both independent aspirants.

The rest are Mr Agyenim Boateng of the United Front Party (UFP) Mr Kwesi Busumbru of the People’s Action Party and Mr Akwasi Addai Odike of the United Progressive Party (UPP).

The disqualified candidates have been promised a refund of their GH¢100,000 filling fees.
