Sodomizer Joshua Dadze Gets 20 Years

A seaman, Joshua Dadze, has been jailed 20 years for sodomizing a 14-year-old pupil of Anglican Preparatory School at Tema Newtown. The accused, also known as Abeiku, a 40-year-old father of two, was said to have lured the victim (name withheld) to his room at Abonkor, a suburb of Tema Newtown, under the pretext of watching television. He however forcibly had intercourse with the victim through his anus. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of having unnatural carnal intercourse with a male at the Ashaiman Circuit Court presided over by Justice Tsatsu Yao Azumah, but the court found him guilty. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Prosper Yao Aheto told the court that Dadze lived in the same vicinity with the victim at Abonkor with his parents. On February 13, 2011 at about 8pm, while the victim was watching television by a wayside, Joshua was said to have gone and asked the victim to accompany him to his (Joshua) house. According to the prosecutor, the accused managed to lure the victim to his room to continue watching the television programme. Immediately they got to the room, he was said to have forcibly removed the victim�s pant and had intercourse with him through the anus. The victim screamed for help but nobody came to his rescue. He said the victim later managed to run out from the accused person�s room after the act and narrated his ordeal to the father, immediately he got home. The prosecutor stated that a complaint was lodged at the Tema branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) where a police medical report form was issued for the victim to attend hospital for examination and treatment. The medical examination, according to the prosecutor, confirmed the incident. The accused was later arrested for investigations but he denied the offence in his caution statement to the police. After investigations, he was charged with the offence and subsequently arraigned before, court where he has been sentenced to 20 years� imprisonment. Meanwhile, a certain Uncle Kudjo Afful, who was invited to give evidence in court by the accused as a witness, was arrested and would be charged with perjury at another court in Tema. According to the presiding judge, Afful lied under oath on several occasions by contrasting what the accused told the court during cross-examination.
