Since he won Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year at this year's edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Ras Kuuku has not shied away from showing off his plaque.
He has taken the trophy everywhere with him, for interviews and showing it off to anyone who cares to see it. There were even rumours recently that the award had been stolen, which he later dismissed.
When he landed in the United States of America to go on tour, pictures of him posing with the award alongside US Customs official went viral. And while he has been laughed at for the way he keeps displaying the award, Ras Kuuku tells Graphic Showbiz that he is nowhere near done yet.
“I am not done displaying my award, I am making sure the world hears of it and the VGMA, which is the Grammys of Ghanaian music.
"I am in the USA touring some of the states and displaying my award wherever I go. I will be going to Philadelphia, New Jersey and Minnesota. From there I am moving to Germany and other countries and in all these places my award must be seen,” he said.
Ras Kuuku has been one of the outspoken critics of the VGMA and organisers Charterhouse, accusing them of being bias.
However, this year, the Nwansina hitmaker finally struck gold and he told Graphic Showbiz that he had waited for the award for far too long and once he had gotten hold of it, he will display it until his reign is over.
“Until the next VGMA is organised and the award given to the next Reggae/Dancehall artiste I am the current holder and no one is stopping me from displaying my award. I have seen people hating on me and others praising me but I don't care as long as I won it genuinely,” he stated.
Talking about his music, Ras Kuuku said he is almost done with his EP which he has titled Kwame Nkrumah.
“My Kwame Nkrumah EP, which features some of the top musicians in Ghana is almost done and Ghanaians are going to love it. It has songs from all the genres of music. I have Dancehall, Highlife, Reggae, Hiplife and Afrobeats songs and they are all lovely,” he said.
Ras Kuuku, born Kojo Kurankye, who has been in the industry for more than a decade. Some of his songs are Show Them Love, Me Mpaebo, Kpagbum Style, Mr Government, Ghetto Love, kuntunkununku and Bad System.
