President Akufo-Addo’s visit to Effutu on Thursday, 26th November, 2020, could well be described as climatic due to the thousands of people who thronged the Constituency to catch a glimpse of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Winneba in particular went gay over the presence of Mr. President. Over forty thousand Ghanaians came out to meet the President and that’s a remarkable feat.

Many have been asking what precipitated this great feat. Many have asked what is being done in Effutu that has suddenly endeared the people to President Akufo-Addo in the manner that was witnessed yesterday.

Prior to his ascension to the throne as the Member of Parliament for Effutu, the NPP had had stints with the seat through Samuel Owusu Agyei who was the MP for the area between 2005 and 2009.

Mike Allen Hammah was the Mugabe of Effutu. The NDC kingpin was the king of Effutu as he had been the Member of Parliament of Effutu for three times. It was in the 2012 elections that the lesser known Afenyo-Markin defeated him narrowly.

For the past eight years, Afenyo-Markin has spent time, energy and resources to build a legacy for not only his people but the NPP as well.

In the 2016 elections for instance, Afenyo-Markin, popularly known as Alex by the people of Effutu, trounced his opponent from the NDC with a margin that shocked political analysts. With about 12,000 votes margin, it became increasingly clear that Effutu had warmed itself into its illustrious son, Alex.

Afenyo-Markin’s achievements in terms of developmental projects for his people cannot be underestimated. He has built police stations, libraries, community centres, schools, roads, ultramodern toilet facilities and a host of other projects.

He has singlehandedly put up an estate with buildings ranging from 2-bedrooms to 5-bedrooms and even story buildings.

In terms of helping his people to develop business-wise, the affable lawyer has done a lot. From giving out over 150 cars for work and pay to giving about 500 freezers to the women in his constituency, buying outboard motors for the fisherfolk, giving thousands of women cash to start businesses, giving MoMo vendors capital to shore up their operations, the list is endless.

He has also donated over one thousand laptops to teachers and other workers in Effutu. There are several other things he has done for his people that I cannot put out all in his determination to see to the realization of the Effutu Dream.

The target for the 2020 elections is to win over 80% of the votes and this is doable because Afenyo-Markin has built a solid foundation that has the ability to make this happen.

Effutu came to a standstill upon the President’s visit due to the stellar performance of Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin. Thanks to him, Effutu has become a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party.

To some of us, Honourable Alexander Afenyo-Markin is the best MP in terms of the development of his constituents and constituency. Alex is indeed the Show Boy!
