Election 2020: National Election Security Taskforce Set Up To Provide Security On Dec 7

As part of measures to ensure law and order during the December elections, the various law enforcement agencies have formed a security taskforce dubbed the 'National Election Security Taskforce'.

The National Election Security Taskforce comprises the Heads of the Ghana Police Service, Armed Forces, Prisons Service, Fire Service, Ghana Revenue Authority and the Ghana Immigration Service.

The countdown to Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Ghana has begun.

It's left with four (4) days to the election day and over 17 million Ghanaians are expected to cast their ballot to elect a President for the nation and Parliamentary representatives for the 275 constituencies.

Monday, December 7 is the D-day and of course, many Ghanaians are expectant to exercise the power of their thumb.

However, the elections will not be successful and peaceful without security.

Speaking in an interview on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM, Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh esq. stated that the taskforce was established to secure the elections.

"We won't sit aloof for people to terrorize electorates at the polling stations," he emphasized.

He defined the team saying it comprises the '"nspector General of Police, Chief of Defence Staff, Controller General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Chief Fire Officer and the Commissioner of the Custom Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority. So, when you talk about the National Election Security Taskforce, this is the main body''.

He added that Regional and District Election Security Taskforces have also been set up to protect the Regions and districts.
