Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa Still At Post

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has discounted social media speculation that its Chairperson Jean Mensa traveled outside the country after declaring the 2020 Presidential Election results on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

The Commission in a press release on Friday, December 11, 2020, said Mrs. Mensa, as well as its other Commissioners, are still at post discharging their legally mandated duties.

"The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to information circulating on social media claiming that its Chairperson traveled outside the country after declaring the 2020 Presidential Election results. We wish to state that Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, as well as all the Commissioners are at post discharging their legally mandated duties," the release said.

"The public is therefore urged to disregard this fake news".

Fake news

The EC's press release comes after rumours made the rounds on social media in the aftermath of the declaration of the results of the Presidential election that Mrs. Mensa had traveled to the United States of America (USA) after declaring the results of the Presidential election.

Later posts by some social media users suggested that she had been denied entry and deported from the USA.
