Rawlings Criticism Is Good For The Nation: Togbe Fugah

The recent criticism of the Mills Administration by former President Jerry John Rawlings is good for the nation as it would help the government live up to expectation in its development agenda, Togbe Mawufeame Fugah, Head of the Ewe Community in Ashanti Region, has said. He said having worked tirelessly to bring the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to power it is not out of place for the former President to keep the government on its toes if things are not going right. Speaking to the GNA in Kumasi, Togbe Fugah said the recent developments in the NDC in general, particularly the decision by some leading members to contest President John Evans Atta Mills in the upcoming NDC National Congress, testified to the fact that the party had grown in deepening its internal democracy. In my view the recent turn of events should not be misconstrued as greed on the part of those who have made their intensions clear to contest the sitting President but a manifestation of how Ghanas democratic dispensation has developed, he said. Togbe Fugah appealed to the aspirants to campaign decently, saying they should avoid provocative statements and behaviour that could be detrimental to the gains made by the nation over the years. The whole world, he said, was looking at how best the NDC could come out united after the Congress as it was a test case for the party to demonstrate its maturity. He appealed to the leadership of the party to work towards bringing all factions together for the benefit of the party.
