This Is Not An Election Petition But A Jean Mensa Petition

Ghanaians watched proceedings in the Supreme Court with expressions of considerable perplexity and petrifaction when Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah admitted that Mahama is not in court to try to declare another presidential results but to challenge the conduct and constitutional duty of the First Respondent (Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa).

This confession of Asiedu Nketiah dovetails into the widely held belief that the whole election petition conundrum was crafted not to challenge the victory of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but to attack the integrity of Jean Adukwei Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

Per the concession of Asiedu Nketiah, since Mr. Mahama is not challenging the validity of the 2020 elections as envisaged by Article 64(1) of the 1992 constitution, it goes to show that the NDC and Mr. Mahama should not have gone to the Supreme Court with a petition in the first place since the sole objective is to bring down Jean Mensa.

It would appear that the fate of Jean Mensa was predetermined by the National Democratic Congress long before the elections were held. What is being done to Jean Mensa today was long decided by the NDC. It has nothing to do with the results of the 2020 elections or the declared results.

No sooner had Jean Mensa's name popped up than the opposition NDC started their vitriolic attacks on her. They have opposed every single policy or program from the Electoral Commission since Jean Mensa took over as chairperson.

They were against the proposal to compile a new register for purposes of the 2020 elections. They raised eyebrows when contracts were given to some firms to supply the Commission with equipment for the registration exercise.

They ruthlessly attacked Jean Mensa for the registration exercise and even went to court to challenge the entire exercise. At every turn, they accused her of being in bed with the NPP to rig the 2020 elections in favor of President Akufo-Addo.

They said Jean Mensa had deliberately disenfranchised people in their strongholds. She was accused of deleting names of people in their strongholds from the register. The list is endless.

In effect, whatever transpired before now was a rehearsal for the ultimate intention of sending her to court and they hid behind a supposed elections petition to roll out their evil machinations against her.

Folks, what we are witnessing in the Supreme Court is not an election petition. It is a petition against Jean Mensa just that they chose this path as a smokescreen to effect their agenda.

I hold the considered view that since this forum is the wrong one to have their plot against Jean Mensa executed, the Supreme Court should just throw them away.
