What’s Lockdown Done To Our Hair?

Lockdowns throughout the continent have forced salons and barbershops to shut their doors.

Without them, many of us have had to find creative ways to keep our looks sharp.

“At the beginning, it was super hard. I was clueless, I didn’t know what to do or where to start”, Akello Matilda Sandra from Uganda told me.

For shrewd businesses though, this has been an opportunity like no other.

In online tutorials or home care products, they have found new sources of much-needed cash.

That was the case for Dupe Talabi, who owns a salon in Lagos, Nigeria.

“Our books are not looking too bad”, she told me. “We still came to about the same, or even better than if there had never been a lockdown.”

But will this be enough to keep the hair care industry afloat amid the pandemic?
