Road Accidents: Increase The Number Of Police Personnel Using 'Speed Guns' - Nana Akomea Appeals

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea has called on the Ghana Police Service to increase the number of Police personnel holding radar speed guns to check the speed of vehicles on the roads.

Nana Akomea, during a panel discussion on  Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', bemoaned the reckless attitude of some drivers resulting in road accidents.

Road accident is said to have claimed more lives in months than Coronavirus has done in a year since its outbreak in the country.

Many Ghanaians have lost their families and loved ones to road accidents.

Days ago, a minivan, locally called ''trotro'' smashed into a truck parked in the middle of the road at Tesano due to mechanical fault, killing about four people with the other passengers on board the trotro sustaining serious injuries.

Addressing the issue of road accidents, Nana Akomea pointed out overspeeding as one of the major causes of road accidents.

He explained that many drivers drive at top speed, particularly on the highways and in long journeys, which without care causes accidents that could be avoided if they followed the speed limit rules.

He believed checking overspeeding will help reduce accidents.

He appealed to the Police to use more radar speed guns, stressing it is one surest way to ensure the safety of road users.

"Should we increase the number of Police personnel holding speed guns, the drivers will obey the laws," he stated.
