The National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) has, in a reconciliatory way, stepped in to calm tempers in the ensuing wrangling between the Managing Director (MD) and Staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In a rather tactful and matured manner, Nana B recounted some experiences he and others, including sections of ECG staff have had with the MD, Mr Kwame Agyeman-Budu stating that “he is very transparent and accessible and always attend to issues with an open mind. This is a man who will do anything for the welfare of his staff and the progress of ECG so I encourage the staff to approach him with all their concerns.”

The ECG workers held a Press Conference on 13th April, 2021 to demand for the removal of the MD from office citing a number of decisions allegedly taken by the MD that do not sit well with the them.

Speaking on Asempa Fm’s Political program, Ekosiisen on Wednesday afternoon, Nana B said "some of the issues raised by the union boarder on decisions that cannot be made by the MD but rather the Board. He continued that "the outsourcing of STL collection as advance payment of bills is only a proposal before the board.

Again, the contracts (substation) sighted as an infringement of procurement law is a contract that is beyond the threshold of the MD. It is a contract that needs the approval of the board of directors of the company. So how can anybody accuse the MD of a breach of contract beyond his threshold?.

Nana B has asked all the parties to be conscious of the abnormal times we find ourselves relative to the COVID-19 pandemic and Power challenges facing selected communities due to the ongoing works on the transmission lines by GridCo and act in a manner that would not aggravate the delicate situation at hand.

“The best way to resolve this impasse is for the staff to sit down with the MD to have dispassionate and candid discussions on all the instant matters. All parties must go to the negotiation table with open mind, with the sole aim of resolving the matter to permit the efficient and effective running of ECG” Nana B has said.
