Defining Alan Kyeremanten's Attitude Of Loyalty To NPP
Constructively, Political Party is an artificial creature, developed by humans to drive an ideal, philosophy they are convinced about. Implicit in the human character in driving party is loyalty, commitment.
Throughout history, loyalty has been one inevitably important virtue which has been used to assess commitment and traits of people in our communities. The essence of loyalty is to discern the truth from what people say and what they do.
Mr Alan Kyeremanten shot to fame in 2007 on the fiercest generosity of then NPP government. We have been told that he has been an NPP member before 2000. However, it is also on public record, Alan's infamously deliberate decision to resign and quit the NPP in 2008. How Alan was accepted back we don't know and it still remains obscure to many.
The circumstances surrounding the pre and post resignation of Alan is very curious. After the party received his resignation letter, the party responded by pleading with him to reconsider his decision. How generous the NPP tradition is. What did Alan do? The Daily Guide report of 18 April 2008 had it that, "A statement signed by Mr. Kyerematen and issued in Accra said: “I acknowledge receipt with thanks, your letter dated April 25, 2008, on the above subject."" It went to state that "Alan however said he would rejoin the party at the appropriate time." Here was an over-pampared son of the NPP who chose to give a cold shoulder response to the generosity of his parent in such snubbing manner by brushing it aside. Like the proverbial "DADA-BA".
That "he would rejoin at the appropriate time", such was more like a dismissing and disregarding the NPP, as if the NPP needed him than he needed it. Clearly, Alan's response was as if NPP was his sole proprietorship business to treat it as he likes, to leave and come back any time he desires? This assertion of Alan cast strong doubts about the loyalty of Alan. Shouldn't we know what at all caused his decision to resign such that, when he was begged to come back, home by his parents, de refuses their plea in such disdain words? He claimed his loyalists were being hounded. If indeed, he was that concerned about life of those loyalists, what has been his commitments towards the life of Nana Kwame, one victim who suffered savage brutality from thugs in 2007? How even is he committed to his so called loyalists?
Alan's loyalty to the NPP on the other hand, is one captured of interestingly firm facts and opinions from leading members of the NPP. On 17th July 2010, GNA reported a meeting of Alan with, " polling station executives in the Upper West Akyem Constituency at Adeiso and Lower West Akyem Constituency at Asamankese. Mr. Kyerematen noted that it had been the tradition of the party for all losing candidates to support the winner and this year should be no different". Alan has not been able to stand by his own words. The 2007/8 infamous resignation as one of the Directors of NPP 2008 campaign in the midst of the red sea into 2008 elections, gives him out and betrays Alan as a man whose loyalty to the NPP is one of SELFISHNESS and SELF-SEEKING.
In the same vein, Mr Boakye Agyarko, Campaign Manager for the 2012 NPP National Campaign explained how Alan left Ghana after his humiliating defeat in 2010. Agyarko said "With respect to not being invited to join the campaign, the truth of the matter is, Mr. Kyerematen left town for an international job after losing the primaries. As he proudly boasts, he is an international man!".
This statement exposes the inconsistencies in what Alan says and what he does. Agyarko observed "In February of 2011, Mr. Kyerematen, Nana Addo and I had a brief discussion in Nana's office about his role in the campaign. Later that morning, I had another meeting with Mr. Kyerematen to discuss his role. He intimated he wanted the discussion to continue after his return from Addis Ababa and he promised to stay in touch. In the whole time he was away, he never called ONCE to even check on the progress of the campaign. And of course, he did not return in April as he had indicated." This statement obviously, questions the loyalty of Alan and exposes him as a serious pursuer of selfish interest with selfish intent.
Rumours about Forming a New Political party after quitting NPP in 2008: Prior to the 2008 elections and during the times after Alan's resignation of membership from the NPP, a news story by Malik Daabu of Joy Fm on17th April 2008 reported abortive attempts by Alan to form a new political party. The report said "Mr. Kyerematen has also been linked to a new political party recently outdoored in Kumasi, the Reformed Patriotic Democrats"
On February 5, 2009, then firebrand NPP Member of Parliament, Hon. P C Appiah Ofori was reported to have granted an interview to an Accra-based radio station, Asempa Fm, in which "he accused Mr. Alan Kyerematen of having campaigned against Nana Akufo Addo and even rejoiced at the party's defeat in the December 2008 general elections."
Honorable Appiah Ofori accused the former candidate of the NPP flagbearership race "of creating factions in the party and also alluded to the fact that some polling station executives and other members of the party, who he claimed belong to the Alan Kyerematen faction, collected some money for campaign activities during the general elections, but refused to work with it and thus resulted in the defeat of the party in the elections." Indeed, it is interesting to understand why Alan would resign at an important time in 2008 where he was appointed as Director of Identifiable Groups for the Akufo-Addo campaign.
The above accounts from leading members of the NPP questions the seriousness of Alan to the NPP and seems to suggest strongly that, the Alan's habit of disloyalty has been fast obvious to the rank and file of NPP. It appears that, any attempt to think about linking Alan to the NPP flagbearer is foreboding and will cause great disaffection to the rank and file of NPP. The ordinary NPP member is and has always been very attracted to loyalty in service. Any dream about Alan as flagbearer is a demoralising capsule to the ordinary NPP supporters. The choice to succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo should be considered with loyalty, dedication and hard work, having regards to the ordinary NPP supporters.
