A Letter To Alhaji Haruna Atta; Your Envy-Filled Heart And Mind Cannot Bring Down Akufo-Addo

Dear Haruna Atta,

I cannot for the life of me come to terms with the senseless sentimentalism you’re engrossed in with respect to your incessant attacks on President Akufo-Addo for no justifiable reasons.

Your overarching habitude to bastardize the man who once fed you and gave you life has reached a crescendo and if same is not abdicated, it would erode the successes you chalked in the past as a media person.

It is as though objectivity flies outside the window when you fixate your attention on Akufo-Addo. What you give others plaudits for, you hideously hiss President Akufo-Addo for same.

I find it heartrending your excessive lamentations about the Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast deciding to award an honorary doctorate degree to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. You believe, for reasons so nonsensically preposterous, that President Akufo-Addo doesn’t deserve such an honour! Really?

We may have been accustomed to some of your senseless innuendos and diatribes in your attempts to paint Akufo-Addo black, but the reasons you have posited as the basis for your strong aversion to that colorful ceremony held in honour of the President verge on amentia, for want of a better word.

You claim Mr. President plagiarized a speech and same should be strong enough to deny him any honorary doctorate degree. Which speech did he plagiarize that has caused so much bitterness brewing inside your jaded heart and mind? You need tutorials on what plagiarism is all about.

Moreover, you are in no position to lecture the University of Cape Coast on plagiarism. End these piteous wailings over this subject before you are put on the right path by the University. It amounts to a betrayal of your intelligence to attempt to school UCC on a matter well within their purview.

Your relentless pleadings are rendered more piteous with your claim that President Akufo-Addo has brought the education system on its knees and that, in your warped judgement, should be enough reason not to honour him.

So you believe that others before him who were honored by the institution deserved their awards but the President of the Republic whose contributions to the growth and development of UCC in so many ways should not be honored?

I struggle to keep up with your perverse mindset with respect to the above claim. For the records, Akufo-Addo’s achievements in the educational system are unprecedented. His Free SHS legacy alone beats all other educational policies birthed before his. No social interventional policy implemented in Ghana’s history can outdo Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS policy.

This policy has put hundreds of thousands of students who would have walked the streets into school. The era in which BECE graduates could not continue to the senior high school level due to parents’ inabilities to cater for their wards has since been dealt a hefty blow due to Free SHS.

President Akufo-Addo has also embarked on a massive educational infrastructural development aimed at tackling the excess numbers in terms of students’ population in both pre-tertiary and tertiary schools. No administration before this has injected so much resources into our education than President Akufo-Addo.

The University of Cape Coast has acknowledged the immense contributions of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo towards the empowerment of the institution to achieve its ultimate goals. The University as well as other institutions have been given financial clearances to employ more qualified hands as lecturers and other staff members.

With these indisputable facts, any narration that veers off from admitting to the fact that indeed President Akufo-Addo more than deserves such an honour should be considered as non-objective ill-meaning.

You have overlooked all these facts in your assessment of the man and the honour being conferred on him to pen a piece that casts more than a slur on his integrity. That is the mark of a man who hates another for no justifiable cause.

Alhaji Haruna Atta, your affinity for issuing vituperative pieces against Nana Akufo-Addo has made many conclude that you take delight in attacking the man simply because the largesse which used to be your lot to experience under the Mahama regime has ceased coming.

As a former ambassador under Mahama, you relish the thoughts of the NDC coming back to power for you to be appointed into another position once again and the man you see as an impediment is President Akufo-Addo. Your ethnocentric-laden pieces have all failed to gift you what your heart desires.

As I write, the President is being honoured by the University of Cape Coast, meaning your write-up aimed at running him down fell on some distant rocks as same has been determined and deemed to hold no water. You can continue hating him but God will continue blessing him and lifting him up!

Whether you like it or not, President Akufo-Addo has been duly honored by the University of Cape Coast as Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership.
