Governance Lecturer at Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah has fired shots at the National Labour Commission following their court injunction against the striking University lecturers.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has laid down their working tools and embarked on strike, registering their displeasure with the Akufo-Addo administration over the conditions of service.

They complain about their remuneration and other challenges.

But as the negotiations between the UTAG executives and government were in progress, the National Labour Commission (NLC) secured an injunction from an Accra High Court to compel the lecturers to resume work.

In response, the UTAG have refused to comply with the injunction with their President indicating they have instructed their lawyers to take up the matter.

"We were almost reaching a consensus until the government's court issue arose. Now, a whole new ballgame has started because we're also asking our lawyers to go to court . . . we were getting there. We were pushing; now this argument I'm making is lost," he said.

Making his submissions on the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah slammed the Labour Commission saying they don't do any work but wait for matters to escalate, then threaten with court action.

''They don't do their work well. They wait for matters to escalate and then hurriedly jump to court," he stated.

He cautioned the labour authorities to stop sleeping on their responsibilities and up their performance with regard to resolving labour-related issues.
