Over 700 Workers Of GBC Won't Lose Their Jobs - GIADEC CEO Assures

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), Mr. Michael Ansah has assured workers of the Ghana Bauxite Company (GBC) that they won't lose their source of livelihood.

According to him, a smooth transition plan is being worked out by government that will ensure job security for the would-be affected workers.

Staff of the GBC Limited at Awaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District in the Western North Region are afraid of losing their jobs after the majority shareholder of the Corporation, Bosai Minerals Group from China decided to opt out.

Peace FM's Ashanti Regional correspondent, Samson K. Nyamekye speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme after an emergency meeting at GBC, disclosed Bosai Minerals Group from China, an investor, decided to pull out following the non-renewal of its mining lease which will expire in January 2022.

Bosai Minerals owns 80 percent shares in the company, while Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) which represents government, owns 20 percent.

However, speaking on the same platform, Wednesday, Michael Ansah said plans are being put in place to ensure a smooth transition and that won't affect jobs.

"I want to assure everyone that things are being done to ensure a smooth transition from where we are now to the future that we want to build . . . secondly we’ll make sure that jobs will be protected, livelihoods will be protected . . . all the stakeholders including the workers and the community will come together and make sure we can share the transition plan . ." he indicated.

He re-echoed, "we’re putting a transition plan in place; we’re going to engage with all the workers and management and make sure that jobs and livelihoods are protected".
