Presiding Member Swiftly Intervenes To Calm Birim North Chiefs Against Conduct Of 'Disrespectful' DCE

Presiding Member for the Birim North District Assembly in the Eastern Region, George Krobea Asante, has swiftly apologised on behalf of the Assembly to the Birim North District Association of Chiefs led by Obrempong Kwasi Amoh Tweretwie I for the unfortunate incident that happened last Tuesday, September 7 2021 between the chiefs and the Assembly.

In a statement copied to Peacefmonline.com by George Krobea Asante, Presiding Member for Birim North District Assembly, in an attempt to restore calm and ensure effective collaboration between the chiefs and the Assembly, he has on behalf of his colleague Assembly Members has apologised to the traditional authorities for what has been described as a ‘disrespectful conduct’ by the DCE, Hon. Damptey.

“In fact, I was very worried when my attention was drawn to the news which was first published by Freeman TV and therefore calls for immediate intervention to restore calm and ensure effective collaboration between the traditional authorities and the Assembly,” his statement read.

" . . my first step was to contact the President of the Association of Chiefs in the district in the person of Obrempong Kwasi Amoh Tweretwie I to render an apology to him and to all the other Chiefs that were affected by the issue at stake and also beg for their forgiveness,” the statement added.

This apology letter is borne out of the decision of the traditional authorities in the Birim North District to call off a planned stakeholders’ engagement by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Nana Raymond Damptey for failing to consult with the chiefs in the district.

The Chiefs have however described the conduct of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Nana Raymond Damptey as disrespectful and disregard for traditional authorities.

Below Is The Full Statement Issued By Presiding Member for Birem North District Assembly, George Krobea Asante:

This statement is essentially to render my sincere apology on behalf of the Assembly as the Presiding Member to the Birim North District Association of Chiefs led by Obrempong Kwasi Amoh Tweretwie I, Chief of Abirem and also the association's President for the unfortunate incident which happened last Tuesday, September 7, 2021, between the Chiefs and the Assembly.

On behalf of all my colleague Assembly Members and on my own behalf we beg our revered Chiefs to forgive the Assembly. In fact, I was very worried when my attention was drawn to the news which was first published by Freeman TV and therefore calls for immediate intervention to restore calm and ensure effective collaboration between the traditional authorities and the Assembly.

As part of my efforts in resolving this unfortunate impasse, my first step was to contact the President of the Association of Chiefs in the district in the person of Obrempong Kwasi Amoh Tweretwie I to render an apology to him and to all the other Chiefs that were affected by the issue as stake and also beg for their forgiveness.

On the other hand, I have also been able to talk to the DCE and the District Coordinating Director to remain calm while we fix find amicable means of engaging with all the stakeholders especially our revered Chiefs for redress.

Indeed, I found this issue to be highly avoidable which should not have gotten to this level. As matter of fact, I expected the Assembly to have considered the opinion of the Chiefs for the rescheduling of the meeting date to allow all the market women the flexibility to fully participate on any day aside from the market day.

I am therefore advising the Assembly to consult the Chiefs and other stakeholders like the Assembly Members in any future engagement of this kind before final decisions are considered.

My humble appeal also to our mothers and sisters in the various markets across the district and also to the good people in the district is to remain calm while we find a way to resolve the issue at hand.

I thank you all in anticipation of your maximum cooperation in this regard.

God bless our district and make her great and strong.

HON GEORGE KROBEA ASANTE

PRESIDING MEMBER, BIRIM NORTH DISTRICT
