“Do Or Die” Affair – Bawumia Jabs Mahama

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia says competitions are not a “do or die” affair as being propagated by former President John Dramani Mahama.

This is in response to Mr Mahama’s comment about how the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will approach election 2024 at the over 38,000 polling stations in the country.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia while addressing the Ghana construction industry excellence awards ceremony on the 10th of September 2021, after congratulating the award winners indirectly took a swipe at Mr Mahama saying that competing for awards such as the construction industry awards is not a “do or die” affair.

“Finally, let me congratulate the award winners for tonight and I wish those who could not make it a better luck in 2022. You know when you go for these competitions and awards, it is not “do or die”, so we wish you better lack in 2022” Vice President Bawumia said.

Mahama’s “do or die” comment

According to the 2020 flagbearer of the opposition party, the electoral commission deliberately took measures to ensure that President Akufo-Addo and the NPP won the 2020 elections.

“It is said that you learn lessons from things that happen so we have also learned from 2020. The elections will be won or lost at the polling station. The polling station will be do or die affair. I haven’t said all die be die, it will be do or die at the polling station, in 2024 that is where we will win the election. We will be doing everything to ensure that the election is free and fair. We don’t want to cheat the NPP and we also don’t want them to cheat us. We just want the will of the people to prevail,” Mr Mahama who is on his Thank you tour told Akan FM in the Bono East region.

But Dr Bawumia in a reaction to the former leader’s comment said election petitions will come to naught without pink sheet evidence.

“But seriouslyly, if you go to court to challenge an election results and you have no pink sheets, then your case will die” Bawumia said.
