REVEALED: Somebody Dies From Road Accident Every '24 Seconds'

Road accidents remain a major public safety issue in Ghana.

In Ghana, over 2000 people lose their lives to road accidents within nine months with a terrifying number of about 310 of the lives lost being school children.

More than 11000 people have suffered serious degrees of injuries as a result of road accidents, according to a data by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) Senior Planning and Programmes Manager, Henry Asomani.

Also a road safety journalist who has done extensive media work in the road sector, Seth Kwame Boateng disclosed that, in Ghana, ''...until this year or last year, approximately six (6) people die each day. It has worsened this year; estimatedly nine (9) people die each day. Currently, when you look at the monthly figures, at least 240 people die through road accident every month...In September alone, people who died through road accident which the Police reported are 235''.

Seth Kwame Boateng, however, noted that road accident isn't only peculiar to Ghana but it's a worldwide problem.

He shockingly revealed ''every 24 seconds, someone dies through road accident in the world'' which therefore goes to say that the road menace threatens lives all over the globe.

The journalist said this on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'' Monday morning in hopes that Ghanaians will notice how dangerous it is to drive without taking all necessary precautions on the road.
