LGBTQ+ Bill: Homosexuality Not Attractive As Some Believe It To Be - NPP MP

Member of Parliament for Assin South in the Central Region, Hon Rev Ntim Fordjour, is of the opinion that the financial or economic overtures associated with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and other sexual identities including Pansexual and Two-Spirit (LGBTQ+) practice, it cannot be as "attractive" as some might want the public to believe.

Thus, he has lauded Ghanaians for coming out strongly to support the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill to stop the activities of homosexuality in the country.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Rev Hon Ntim Fordjour noted that the fight against LGBTQ+ activities is a consensus one as from the President to the MPs, Pastors, Imams, and Chiefs, all have declared their stance against homosexuality in the country.

He indicated that even though there is an existing law in the constitution that criminalises homosexuality, there are still some grey areas that are motivating some lifestyles which are contrary to the norms and customs of the country and also give some people an opportunity to make homosexuality attractive.

"We have to look at the law again to seal all the loopholes and come up with all-encompassing law that will cover all other areas of homosexuality which are not captured in the existing law. We need a robust law that will be consistent with our position as a nation-state on homosexuality," he posited.

He was of the view that many people in the country who are into homosexuality need help from society as they are being lured by certain conditions in their lives.

"It can be an economic reason and so they look for countries that support homosexuality and apply to live there and so it is becoming an avenue for economic migration. Homosexuality is not attractive as some people are making it seems to be. some of the people who are in the act need help and so it is captured in the bill how we can help those who need help for them to change," he noted.

Hon. Rev Ntim Fordjour indicated that the bill on LGBTQ+ has a provision to protect those who are in the act as it has a section that criminalises any form of attacks against those who are suspected to be homosexuals.

He added that the bill is very broad to cover all aspects of homosexuality, stating clearly that it is a non-partisan bill that was moved by private members with the support of all the MPs, to the best of his knowledge.

"I don't know any MP who does not support the bill and if anybody doesn't like the bill, the person can voice it out because we are practising democracy . . . I am saying it on record that I signed the bill due to my personal principle, in my conviction and in what I believe in and know is dignifying and good for my people in Assin South," Hon. Rev Ntim declared.
