Ghana’s Black Queens are in danger of missing out on qualification to the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations following defeat in their qualifiers against Nigeria.

The 11-time champions proved too strong and claimed a 2-0 victory over Ghana in the first leg encounter in Lagos on Wednesday.

Nigeria raced into a two-goal inside the first 20 minutes thanks to a brace by Sweden-based striker Uchenna Kanu.

She opened the scoring in the 15th minute after reacting well in the 18 yards and crafted out a space for herself to head the ball into the net.

Five minutes later, the  Linkopings FC player rose highest in the box yet again to guide home a brilliant delivery from Toni Payne off a quickly taken freekick.

Nigeria had chances to extend their lead but wasted them while Ghana struggled to threaten the home side at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

The reverse fixture will be played in Accra on Sunday.

 
The tie winner will progress to the final round of qualifiers.

The tournament will be staged in Morocco, serving as the qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup billed to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
