Humans Are Irreplaceable; Be Patient When Driving - Prof Agyekum Advises Drivers

Dean of the School of Performing Arts and Linguistics Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Kofi Agyekum, has advised road users to be patient when using the roads.

Professor Kofi Agyekum, making submissions on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, expressed disgust over the reckless driving and misconduct of vehicle drivers resulting in road accidents.

According to a data provided by the Center for Transport Security Dialogue, Ghana has, between January and October 2021, recorded 2,380 fatal road accidents.

Over 12,000 people have reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries from road accidents within the ten (10) months period.

Prof. Agyekum, popularly called Opanyin Agyekum, was worried about this disturbing report, hence wondering why people don't value lives when driving.

''We forget that humans are irreplaceable," he cried out.

Blaming drivers over their misbehaviour and road sector authorities for failing to enforce the road safety laws, Opanyin Agyekum noted that it is possible to avoid road accidents if only road users will be patient enough to access the roads following all the rules for safety.

He admonished the authorities charged with the responsibilities of enforcing the road safety rules to do so ensuring any person who offends the laws is brought to book to deter others.
