Title sponsor TotalEnergies have brought the Africa Cup of Nations trophy to Ghana for a tour ahead of the continental showpiece to be held next year.

The AFCON trophy arrived in Ghana in the late hours of Tuesday, November 16, and was revealed to the dignitaries and media men present by the official mascot for the continental showpiece, Mola.

The trophy will make a stop at some selected TotalEnergies Fuelling Stations in Accra for the Ghanaian public to view and take pictures with.

The trophy tour in Ghana is part of moves by CAF to whip up interest among participating countries before the tournament commences on January 9.

Speaking at the event, Abdul-Rahim Siddique, the Marketing Head of TotalEnergies Ghana said he hopes Ghana will be able to lift the trophy for the first time in four decades.

Also speaking at the arrival of the trophy, the Deputy Sports Minister, Evans Bobie Opoku said he believes Ghana will get their hands on the trophy once again.

The brand ambassador for TotalEnergies Ghana and former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah stated that lifting the trophy is a legacy any of the qualified countries will be eager to have.

He hopes current Black Stars captain Andre 'Dede' Ayew will be the one to get his hands on the trophy come February 6, 2022.

TotalEnergies became partners of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations and signed an eight-year deal in 2016 to become the Title sponsor of the competition with the tournament renamed TotalEnergies Africa Cup Of Nations from 2017.

The trophy tour will begin on Wednesday, November 17 at the Osu Total then to the 37 Military branch before it moves to Kokompe/Darkuman Total.

The last stop will be at the Total House in Accra where Stephen Appiah will hold an engagement with the public and take pictures.

The tournament will be held from 9th January to 6th February, 2021 in Cameroon.

The first match will be played on Sunday, 09 January 2022 at Olembe Stadium between hosts Cameroon and Burkina Faso at 17h00 local time (16h00 GMT).
