COVID -19: Fourth Wave Imminent - Ghana Health Service

The Ghana Health Service has predicted that the country is likely to record a fourth wave of the coronavirus in December or January if the country fails to achieve the herd immunity.

According to the Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, there has always been a new wave in every six months and there is likely to be a fourth one within the festive period.

He has therefore urged Ghanaians to partake in the ongoing vaccination exercise against Covid-19 to prevent any wave.

The First Wave was recorded in April/May 2020, a second wave in January 2021 and the third one in June 2021, he added.

At a media briefing on the Covid-19 vaccination exercise, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang noted that Ghana Health Service in the region is targeting to cover 500,000 population at the end of December under the month of Covid -19 Vaccination exercise as declared by the government.

"As part of its plans in achieving this target, the Directorate is introducing House to House, Outreach, meeting groups and other means for the injection.

"Currently, the Region has less than seven active cases and it is far better than the previous cases where the region was recording a huge number of cases," he added.

Ashanti Region has cumulative Cases of 20,726, Recovered cases of 20,338 and Death 381.

Approximately 4 million people targeted for full vaccination in the Ashanti Region by the Ghana Health Service. Total of 1,347,801 vaccines administered so far.
