The La Stool and La-Traditional Council have cut the sod for the construction of an artificial football turf with ancillary facilities at the La Wireless Cluster of Schools. The project by SAL construction is expected to be ready in six months. The brief ceremony on the site inside the La-Wireless Cluster of schools witnessed almost all fetish priests and priestesses who offered prayers to the Almighty Lord for his blessings.

The 96m X 45m pitch, will in the next six months be transformed into a modern FIFA standard football pitch.

The project which is aimed at unearthing talents, promoting good health and tourism, is being funded by the La Stool and La-Traditional Council. The artificial football turf will be fitted with floodlights with seating capacity for 1,000 spectators, a main building with VIP and changing rooms. The project will also have a multi-purpose court for basketball, lawn tennis, a playing ground for children and a car park.

The facility has changing rooms for officiating officials as well as home and away teams.

The La Shikele Nii Adjei Kofei IV, a member of the La Traditional, Council, who led the team of eminent Chiefs to Cut Sod in an interview with the media, said the Council had an arrangement with the government to use portions of the La Wireless Aviation lands for the project so that the people La will benefit.

He refuted allegations making rounds that the Council had sold the land government released to the traditional authorities.

Nii Adjei Kofei IV l, the King Maker of La gave the assurance that the Council would manage the pitch professionally for it to last longer.

The technical director at SAL construction, the contractors in charge of the project, Mr Julius Nii Darkofio Lamptey, says they will not compromise on quality and will work within schedule.

The Chairman of the East Dadekotopon Development Trust, Nii Obour Fred Afful, described the project as timely and assured the youth of La to expect more infrastructure development in the community.

Officials from SAL construction said the grass being used for the project is the best quality approved by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and guaranteed to last for 12 years. The project when complete will ease the pressure on the only modern astro turf football pitch in the La community.
