The Teachers Education Workers Union (TEWU), has suspended its nationwide strike.
This follows a meeting with government over their grievances.
The Union declared a nationwide strike on Wednesday, 5th January 2022.
At a press conference on Tuesday, TEWU informed "the government and its agencies, parents and the Ghanaian public that as schools reopen today, January 5, 2022, they should not expect any of the non-teaching staff to be at post.
“These would include but not limited to the domestic bursars, matrons, cooks, pantry hands, labourers, cleaners, administrators, accountants, librarians, logistics and supply officers, internal auditors, etc."
However, after an emergency meeting with the various stakeholders, TEWU has decided to call off the strike.
The General Secretary of TEWU, Mark Dankyira Korankye, said “The strike has been put on hold pending the committee’s work. If the committee completes its work and we have a favourable response, we will look at that but if the response is not favourable, we will resume our strike. We expect that they will expedite whatever action there is and finish it on time,” he said in an interview with Citi News.
