Central Region To Experience Water Rationing - Regional Communications Manager

Central and Western Regional Communications Manager for Ghana Water company, Nana Yaw Barima Banie, has attributed the current water shortage in Cape Coast to the dry season.

According to him, the company is having very low levels of water at Sekyere Hemang headworks because ''we are compelled to occasionally shut down, as a result, customers may be experiencing 'no or low' flow at a point".

He noted that due to the lack of fresh water inflows into the Prah River and the IDA dam at Hekyere Hemang and Baifikrom respectively, the water levels at the two intake points have gone very low making it difficult to extract enough raw water for treatment.

"The situation has, therefore, resulted in low production of potable water leading to significant water supply shortfalls in Cape Coast Metropolis and Saltpond town," he stressed

He urged its customers to bear with them while they resolve the production challenges, and appealed to them to store enough water whenever they see water flowing through their taps.

In an interview with Peace FM News' Sally Ngissah, he revealed that the Central Region will soon experience water rationing.

"Management of the company directly identifies with the hardship which cherished customers are currently going through in search of potable water, and is critically studying the situation to find ways of ameliorating the difficulties," he added.
