Speaker's 12 Police Guards: Even 'Mafia Dons' Don't Have This Security; This Frightens Me! - Kwesi Pratt

Kwesi Pratt has jabbed the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin for having twelve (12) Police officers to guard him.

Speaking on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', the seasoned Journalist was shocked over the number wondering why the Speaker should have such huge Police security detail.

It has been revealed that the Speaker is being served by twelve Police bodyguards and additional four Military officers, until January 14, 2022, when the soldiers were ordered to return to base.

The Speaker has been stripped of the Military protection but his Police protection holds and he is said to be protected by 12 Police personnel.

Following the withdrawal of the military personnel, the Minority in Parliament issued a statement describing the action as politically motivated, calculated to diminish the confidence of the Speaker in his bid to impartially and independently steer the affairs of the legislative arm of government.

The Majority fired back in an equally partisan statement saying the Police protection for Mr. Bagbin has always been in place.

According to them, Mr. Bagbin has four police officers in his known residence, three police officers in his secretariat, and five other policemen in and around his office block any day any time.

Wondering how the absence of these military personnel could impact the protection of the Speaker, the Majority stressed that none of the previous speakers had half of the police cover as has been accorded Mr. Bagbin.

Commenting on "Kokrokoo" Tuesday, Mr. Pratt, who appeared stunned by the number, wondered if Ghana is going to war for the Speaker to have 12 armed Police officers.

''Since independence, I haven't ever heard that any Speaker in Ghana has had 12 Police security personnel. Reading this today frightens me. I mean how? Do mafia dons even have 12 armed Police guards?'' he questioned.
