Akufo-Addo Has Constructed Roads Mahama Deceived Western North Chiefs Over

President Akufo-Addo’s Year of Roads mantra was not made in a vacuum as there are enough evidences to prove that indeed in the history of Ghana’s developmental paradigm, there hasn’t been any administration that has prioritized road construction as much as this administration.

In fact, the achievements of this administration in the road sector in just five years pales those of Mills of blessed memory and Mahama into insignificance.

It is also important to take readers down memory and give a bit of the history around these roads constructed in the Western North Region.

Benchema Adjoafua road is a major International route located in the Western North Region. It must, however, be understood in clear terms that, this road existed before Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo came to power in 2017.

The truth of the matter is, NDC in their entire eight years failed to pay attention to this classic road. They(NDC) did that even when people had previously expressed their frustration in using the road.

Ideally, one would have thought that since the Western North Region remains an NDC strong hold, they would have in spite of same committed a lot of seriousness to the construction of the road but hey, it turned out to be the opposite.

In 2009, Professor Mills invited all the paramount chiefs in the Western North enclave( formerly Western Region) to officially inform them of his decision to give the road a face lift. That promise followed a sod cutting ceremony. In fact few months after the ceremony, the road was completely abandoned.

In 2012 when they realized that elections were approaching, they directed Midwest Construction company Limited to move to the said road to work on it. The people got hoodwinked and voted massively for the NDC in 2012 elections.

In 2013, Midwest Construction Limited left the site. In 2015, the NDC again cut sword for the construction of the same road with a very colourful ceremony which saw the invitation of paramount chiefs within the enclave. Through out 2015-2016 the good people of Western North Region saw nothing but a sluggish work on the road until 2016 elections were over.

It must also be noted that, in 2017 when Nana Akufo Addo took a thanksgiving tour in Western North Region, Omanhene of Sefwi Wiawso, Nana Katakyie Kwasi Bumangama had cause to complain bitterly about the slow pace of shoddy work the people witnessed in 2015-2016 when NDC decided to deceive the people" through a come back" on the road and prayed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to show some modicum of commitment to the road.

The President who recounted how the NDC took him to the cleaners concerning his inquiries into the existence of the much touted unprecedented road construction achievements NDC claimed prior to the 2016 elections, promised to pay seious attention to the road.

It is also important to understand that, three months after the promise, the Vice President of the Republic, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia took a visit to the Western North Region. As part of his visits, he cut sword for the construction of the Benchema Adjoafua road.

During the ceremony, the Paramount Chiefs made it clear to him that, they would not forgive him if the sword cutting ceremony turns out to be a repeated version of what they saw under the erstwhile Mills-Mahama administration.

Today, the good news is that, the road has been constructed for the good people of Western North Region. What must also be noted is that, the chronology of events as stated above further exposes the NDC's lack of care for their strong holds and Western North Region is a classical example.

The Year of Roads moniker is indeed working. We may need a full documentary on roads so far constructed by the NPP and I am fully convinced that when that is done, NDC will never think of going back to their much touted unprecedented road construction which only existed in their Green Book of lies.
