Don't Defy Court Ruling To Call off Strike - Nana B To UTAG

NPP National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, has urged the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to rescind their decision to remain on strike despite a court ruling to call it off.

The Labour Division of the Accra High Court on Tuesday put an injunction on the strike after it upheld an interlocutory application by the NLC and ordered the University teachers to cancel the weeks of strike.

However, the teachers have reportedly refused to heed the court order, therefore staying on strike.

According to the President of UTAG, Prof. Solomon Nunoo, UTAG will on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 file a countersuit against the NLC application.

''Tomorrow at 1:30 pm, they will look at the substantive case to declare whether the strike is legal or illegal and also the motion to set aside the injunction ruling also has been filed...The calls coming in about the President intervening, I think it is all in the right direction. If the President will step in and intervene, fine, I think it will also help the matter but the most important thing is that the condition of service of the University teacher is extremely bad and must be dealt with'', he said in an interview on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo''.

Speaking on 'Kokrokoo', Henry Nana Boakye, popularly called 'Nana B', slammed the striking teachers stating they are setting a precedent with their decision to defy the court order.

He pleaded with them to respect the court and resume work saying, ''I disagree with that posturing, especially with my background. If care is not taken, the other effect is that we will allow a different association to defy the court because UTAG did same . . . I plead with you that you don't drag the image of the court through the mud''.

''If this thing drags too much, it is the students who will suffer. The young people will suffer more," he added.
