Shooting @ Wa: One More Dead Over Land Dispute (UPDATE)

One more person has died following a shooting incident that occurred in Wa municipal; Upper West Region.

Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peter Ndekugri speaking in an interview on Metro TV said the deceased passed on at the hospital.

It may be recalled that a stray bullet fired by Inusah Abdul Rahman to ward off encroachers on his land killed a retired lecturer of the Dr Hilla Limman Technical University, Stephen Mane and injured 4 more.

An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Inusah Rahman who is currently in police custody, got annoyed when he realized that a group of men had dug foundation holes on a piece of land he (Inusah) claimed ownership of. He then decided to shoot at them using a pump-action gun killing the retired lecturer on the spot.

A filling station attendant also narrated that the engine of the retired lecturer’s vehicle got overheated and he parked on the shoulders of the road to solve the problem; immediately he got down from his car, he was hit by the stray bullet

"Those of us selling fuel here were lucky because long vehicles were buying fuel and the bullets hit one of the vehicles and that saved some of us," the attendant said.

Earlier reports indicated that the land dispute was between two families; however, DCOP Ndekugri has indicated that the dispute was within one family.
