Self-Service App: Ghanaians From April Can Register SIM Cards On Their Phones

As part of measures to gather the database of all Ghanaians and clamp down on cyber crimes, all Ghanaians have been asked to register their SIM cards with their Ghana cards.

The SIM card registration, which commenced in October last year, has seen over 14 million Ghanaians registering their cards.

However, the numbers are still small as according to the Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu, the population of Ghanaian SIM card users is 40 million.

This therefore called for the extension of the deadline for the SIM registration which has now moved from March 31, 2022 to July 31, 2022 and aimed at providing all Ghanaians the opportunity to register the SIM cards with the Ghana card.

The extension comes as good news to many Ghanaians, particularly those who haven't registered their SIM cards yet, but this isn't the only good news to share with Ghanaians.

Another notable news to make Ghanaians glad is that the Ministry of Communication is developing a self-service app to ease the challenges they encounter in registering their SIM cards.

To cut the long queues at the Telco offices and avoid the difficulties in registering the SIM cards, the Ministry is making sure Ghanaians can conveniently register from any place.

Therefore, the self-service app is designed to give Ghanaians the opportunity to register using their phones without having to go the offices of the Telecom service providers.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi, the sector Minister disclosed the SIM registration app ''will be available from the middle of April'' this year.

"So, if you have your Ghana card and want to use the SIM registration app, you can sit in the comfort of your home and do the registration," she emphasized.
